From
where I sit it looks like the best rivalry in hockey belongs to the
women...
Two
'brawls' have highlighted the warm-up tour before the Sochi Olympics.
For all those were not line-brawls in a conventional sense, it's the
closest women's hockey can get. In a game where body checking is a
penalty, these were basically pier six brawls. It was fun to watch
and a great way to promote the women's game. Women's hockey is
woefully underfunded. So, anything to generate interest and sell
tickets is positive. Right now women's hockey is overlooked 3 years
out of 4. And when the spotlight shines on the game it's mostly
about how badly Canada and the US outplay everyone else. This is
creating interest and excitement. Even if wasn't a real brawl.
At
least that's how I see it...and I sit in the cheap seats.
